BEST PESTO MOZZARELLA ROLL UPS RECIPE
I’ve wanted to make this fun snack for a few years now and ate a little leftover pesto the other day, so I finally made it! A Pesto Mozzarella Cheese Roll-up is a version of my Pizza Roll-ups recipe. It’s a delicious mixture of pesto and mozzarella cheese wrapped in a tortilla and then baked until crunchy on the outside and melted on the inside. very fun! I’ve also paired these rolls with a refreshing, creamy dip that perfectly balances basil pesto.
WHAT KIND OF PESTO TO USE
Pesto is undoubtedly the most expensive ingredient in this dish, so you have to choose wisely. Aldi has very good basil pesto at a great price but if this isn’t your favorite or you don’t have Aldi near you, I also love the Barilla, Classico and Felippo Berio brands.
And don’t let the rest of the jar of pesto go to waste! Check out our pesto archives for other delicious ways to use your pesto.
TO DIP OR NOT TO DIP
I’ve paired pesto mozzarella rolls with a tangy, creamy tomato sauce that’s super simple, but totally optional. The lists are great on their own and they get richer with the undo, so it’s totally up to you! Or, if you already have a refrigerator full of half-used bottles of sauces and marinades, try experimenting with a different flavor dip. 😉
HOW ARE THE LEFTOVERS?
Pesto mozzarella rolls are certainly best when they come out of the oven, so the tortillas are crunchy and the mozzarella is soft and melted, so I suggest scaling the recipe up or down as needed. Fortunately, they are easy to make whether you want to gain age two years or twenty!

HOW TO MAKE PESTO MOZZARELLA ROLL UPS – STEP BY STEP GUIDE
Heat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Arrange eight 8-inch flour tortillas on a plate and cover with a damp paper towel. Microwave for about 30 seconds to heat the tortillas. This makes it soft and flexible so it won’t break when you try to roll it.
Cut four pieces of mozzarella cheese in half lengthwise. You will use half for each total width. Place about 1 tablespoon basil pesto on the bottom half of the tortilla, keeping away from the edges. Put halved cheese on the pesto.
Fold the sides of the tortilla to seal the ends, then start rolling from the bottom up until the cheese is completely wrapped in the tortilla.
Lay the roll seam side down on a lined baking sheet. Grease them lightly with cooking oil. This helps the tortillas become more crunchy. You can also spray it with cooking spray. Bake the roll up for 13 minutes or until it is lightly golden brown on the edges.
While the pesto mozzarella rolls are baking, make the creamy tomato sauce. In a small bowl, combine ½ cup mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon tomato paste, and 1 minced garlic clove.
KEY : Saimon
Once the rolls are a light golden brown on the edges and you start to see a little cheese oozing, they’re ready! This should take about 13 minutes of baking, taking a minute or two. Let them cool enough to handle.
The kind of pesto soaks in tortillas which makes them so good!
