Ingredients

  • 2 pounds frozen beef hot dogs
  • 1 cups ketchup
  • 0.5 cups barbecue sauce
  • 0.3 cups yellow mustard
  • 0.3 cups brown sugar, packed

Instructions

  1. Add hot dogs to slow cooker: Put all 2 pounds frozen beef hot dogs into the bottom of a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker. Keep them as flat as you can so they cook the same all the way through. It is okay if they touch each other a little bit.
  2. Mix the sauce: In a bowl, stir together 1 cups ketchup, 0.5 cups barbecue sauce, 0.3 cups yellow mustard, and 0.3 cups brown sugar, packed. Keep mixing until everything looks smooth and there are no lumps.
  3. Pour sauce over hot dogs: Pour your sauce all over the hot dogs. Use a spoon to spread it so most of the hot dogs get coated. Do not add any water — the hot dogs will make enough liquid on their own as they cook.
  4. Cook low and slow: Put the lid on and cook on LOW for 4 to 240 minutes, or cook on HIGH heat for 2 to 3 hours. The hot dogs are ready when they are hot all the way through and the sauce is bubbly. If you are home, give them a gentle stir halfway through — but you do not have to!
  5. Stir and taste: When everything is done, stir the hot dogs so they are fully covered in the thick sauce. Take a little taste and add more ketchup or mustard if you want it to taste a bit different.
  6. Serve and enjoy: Put the hot dogs in buns, slice them over rice or mashed potatoes, or cut them into small pieces for little kids. Spoon some extra sauce on top of every plate before serving.

Notes

This meal is great for busy days! You do not need to thaw the hot dogs first — they go in totally frozen. Leftovers taste amazing the next day too. Try serving with coleslaw or baked beans on the side for a fun cookout feel at home.
