Ingredients:
For the Salad:
- 4 cups chopped romaine lettuce
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes halved
- 1 cup cooked ground beef seasoned with taco seasoning
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup sliced black olives
- ½ cup diced red onion
- 1 cup crushed Doritos Nacho Cheese or your favorite flavor
- ¼ cup sour cream optional
- ¼ cup salsa or taco sauce
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro optional
For the Homemade Taco Seasoning:
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- ½ teaspoon cumin
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Prepare the beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until completely browned and no pink remains. Carefully drain the excess fat from the pan.
- Season the meat: Stir the homemade taco seasoning (chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper) into the beef along with a splash of water. Let it simmer gently for 2-3 minutes until the liquid reduces and coats the meat. Remove the skillet from the heat and let it cool slightly.
- Assemble the salad base: In a large serving bowl, combine the chopped romaine lettuce, halved cherry tomatoes, diced red onion, sliced black olives, and shredded cheddar cheese.
- Add protein: Top the fresh vegetable base generously with the warm, seasoned ground beef.
- Add crunch: Sprinkle the crushed Doritos evenly over the top of the entire salad.
- Dress it up: Drizzle the sour cream and salsa directly over the top, or toss everything gently to combine the flavors.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the fresh chopped cilantro on top if desired. Serve immediately to ensure the absolute best crunch and texture!
