Slow Cooker Cabbage with Bacon

Ingredients:

  • 1 large green cabbage, cut into 6-8 wedges
  • 8 slices bacon, cut into pieces
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until lightly crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving a little bacon fat in the pan.
  2. Place the sliced onion in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  3. Arrange the cabbage wedges on top of the onions.
  4. Pour the chicken broth around the cabbage. Add butter, garlic powder, black pepper, salt, and brown sugar if using.
  5. Sprinkle the cooked bacon over the cabbage wedges.
  6. Cover and cook:
    • Low: 6-7 hours
    • High: 3-4 hours
  7. The cabbage should be very tender and flavorful. Spoon some of the cooking liquid over the cabbage before serving.
