Homemade chicken pie is the ultimate comfort food! It’s filled with tender chicken, vegetables, and creamy sauce and topped with a golden pie crust.
Best of all – the chicken pie can be prepared in just 10 minutes! Then, pop it in the oven, and you’ll have a classic comfort food for the whole family.
Ingredients for Chicken pot pie
Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup: Served as a creamy gravy topped with chicken and vegetables.
Mixed vegetables – bring a bag of frozen vegetables instead of chopping fresh vegetables. It’s a total time saver!
Chicken or turkey – no need to cook from scratch. Grilled chicken or leftovers will do. You can chop the meat or cut it into cubes.
All-Purpose Baking Mix: The base for the crust that gives it structure.
Milk – saturates the bread mixture and turns it into a paste.
Eggs – to bind the milk and bread mixture.
Can we freeze chicken pot pie?
Of course, you can! This is another thing I love about this recipe. You can make as many pies as your freezer can fit and bake or reheat them whenever possible. It’s perfect for those days when you’re too exhausted (or lazy) to cook.
Frozen chicken patties will keep for 2-3 months in the freezer. So you can make a lot of dinners ahead of time. Of course, you can also refrigerate the pie. It will last up to five days in the refrigerator. But if you’re anything like my family, it was devoured long before that.
How to make chicken pot pie
You must follow all the recipe steps except put it in the oven. You will need to freeze this uncooked. Cover the pie plate tightly and freeze.
When you’re ready to serve, bake the pie, covered, at 400°F for 1 hour. Then remove the cover and bake for another 45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown. You can also thaw the pie in the refrigerator overnight before baking it. After melting, bake covered for 50 minutes. Then remove the cover and bake for another 35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
