These savory delights are packed with flavor, while still being kind to your waistline. So, grab your apron, let’s dive into the world of mouthwatering goodness!
A Love for Cooking
As a housewife and passionate cook, I’ve always believed that good food brings people together. There’s something magical about preparing a delicious meal that can put smiles on everyone’s faces. This recipe has become a staple in my kitchen, and it never fails to impress my family and friends.
The Ingredients of Success
Before we get started, let’s take a moment to appreciate the incredible ingredients that make these Steak Bakes so irresistible. We begin with Kingsmill Wholemeal thins, which provide a wholesome and satisfying base for our bakes. Next, we have succulent stewing steaks, tender and juicy, with any excess fat carefully removed. The combination of earthy mushrooms, vibrant green and yellow peppers, and a sliced carrot adds a burst of color and texture to the filling. And let’s not forget the unmistakable sweetness of a large red onion, perfectly caramelized.
Slow Cook or Oven Baking
The Choice is Yours Now, it’s time to choose your cooking method. If you’re a fan of convenience, I recommend using a slow cooker. Simply place all the ingredients (except the thins) inside, set it to low, and let it work its magic for 6 hours. The result? A tender, flavorsome filling that will make your taste buds dance with joy. However, if you prefer the oven-baked route, preheat it to a moderate temperature and cook for about an hour until the filling is perfectly done.
Sealing the Deal
As the aroma of the cooked filling fills your kitchen, allow it to cool slightly before moving on to the next step. Take one of the Kingsmill Wholemeal thins and spoon a generous amount of the savory mixture onto it. Now, here comes the fun part – using a beaten egg, brush each corner of the thin, and carefully press them together to seal in all that goodness. To add an extra touch of lusciousness, brush the entire surface of the Steak Bake with more beaten egg before baking.
Preheat your oven to a medium heat and place the assembled Steak Bakes on a baking sheet. Let them bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the thins turn golden brown and crispy. With each passing minute, your anticipation will grow, as you know that delightful flavors and textures are being perfected inside that oven.
Keeping it Fresh
Once the Steak Bakes have cooled down, you’ll want to indulge in one immediately. But if you manage to resist temptation, know that you can store them in the refrigerator for up to one week. This makes them the perfect on-the-go lunch option or a delightful snack to savor whenever you desire.
